This is a 2026 list of New Jersey dog bite law firms that represent people bitten, attacked or knocked down by a dog. Each firm has an active New Jersey office and publishes a dog bite practice on its own website. The firms are grouped by North, Central and South Jersey.
New Jersey dog bite law firms include Onal Injury Law, which publishes this list, and Davis Saperstein & Salomon, Reinartz Law, Maggiano DiGirolamo & Lizzi, Seigel Law, Jeffrey S. In other words, these are the offices of New Jersey dog bite lawyers and dog attack attorneys. Most of them also handle other personal injury cases, and several publish separate pages for bites to children, mail carriers and delivery workers.
Onal Injury Law publishes this page and is listed first. However, the numbers are only there to help you move around the page. They are not a ranking, and no firm paid to be included.
On 3 October 2026 we reviewed the websites of 45 New Jersey personal injury firms. Every firm listed here meets four criteria: an active New Jersey office, a published dog bite or animal attack page, plaintiff-side representation, and public information we could verify. Several firms that also meet these criteria are not listed, because we kept the list to a readable size with firms in all three regions. We opened each listed firm's dog bite page and used only facts the firm publishes about itself. We did not score, rate or rank any firm, and a firm's absence from this page is not a judgment about it. We re-check the list every quarter.
This is a quick view of where each firm has offices and what each firm notes on its own website. Select a firm to jump to its entry.

Each entry also uses only facts the firm publishes about itself, and the tags show which dog bite topics each firm covers on its own website. In other words, we did not score or rate any firm.

This table shows which firms on this list have an office in each county. However, you do not need a firm in your own county. Most dog bite cases are handled by phone, video and email, and a lawsuit is filed where the law says it belongs.
The dog owner is usually responsible, but the insurance that pays depends on where the bite happened and who had the dog. Many of the New Jersey dog bite law firms on this list handle each of these situations.
In most cases the owner's homeowner's policy pays, including for bites that happen at the owner's home. Some policies exclude certain breeds, so every policy should be checked.
A renter's policy often covers the tenant's dog. In addition, a landlord who knew the dog was dangerous and could have acted may share responsibility.
Children are bitten more often than adults and more often on the face. Their deadline usually starts at 18, but early photos and medical records still matter most.
A worker bitten on the job usually has a workers' comp claim and, in addition, a claim against the dog owner. Read our list of New Jersey workplace accident law firms.
The owner usually stays responsible when someone else had the dog. However, a kennel, groomer, walker or store may also be at fault for careless handling.
Claims against a town, county or other public entity follow the Tort Claims Act. For that reason, a notice of claim is generally due within 90 days.
These questions work for every one of the New Jersey dog bite law firms on this page, including ours.
It covers bites where you were lawfully present. However, if you were knocked down or not bitten, ask how the firm will prove the owner was careless.
Ask whether the firm has checked the homeowner's, renter's and any landlord or business policy, and whether any breed exclusion applies.
Facial and hand scars often change over months. For that reason, ask whether the firm will wait for a plastic surgeon's opinion before valuing the case.
Many people, especially children, develop lasting fear of dogs. Ask how the firm documents that harm and whether counseling costs are included.
Finally, ask whether the attorney or staff will speak with you directly or through an interpreter.
Yes, for bites. Under N.J.S.A. 4:19-16, a dog owner is responsible for a bite that happens in a public place or while the person is lawfully on private property, including the owner's own home. It does not matter whether the dog ever bit anyone before or whether the owner knew it was dangerous.
Not for bites. The statute makes the owner responsible for the first bite. However, the older rule still matters for injuries that are not bites, such as being knocked down, where the claim usually depends on negligence or on proof that the owner knew the dog was dangerous.
Generally two years from the bite under N.J.S.A. 2A:14-2. For a child, the two years usually do not start until the child turns 18. However, if a town, county or other public entity may be responsible, for example for a police dog or a shelter, a notice of claim is generally due within 90 days under N.J.S.A. 59:8-8.
In most cases the dog owner's homeowner's or renter's insurance pays, not the owner personally. Some policies exclude certain breeds or dogs with a bite history, so the first step is usually identifying every policy that may apply.
Yes. Many people hesitate for that reason, but the claim is usually paid by the owner's insurance company. That is what the coverage is for.
Sometimes. A landlord is not responsible just for owning the building. However, a landlord who knew a tenant's dog was dangerous and had the power to remove it or fix the risk may share responsibility.
That is a separate process. Under New Jersey's dangerous dog law, N.J.S.A. 4:19-17 and following, animal control can impound the dog and a municipal court can decide whether it is potentially dangerous or vicious. Your injury claim does not depend on that outcome.
Ask each firm before you meet, because policies differ. The consultation with Onal Injury Law is free.
We think people choose better when they can compare. That is why we list ourselves first and say so plainly, describe other firms only with facts they publish, and correct any entry a firm asks us to fix.

This is a directory, not a ranking, rating, award, endorsement or "best of" designation. In addition, the numbering exists for navigation only. Also, no firm is claimed to be superior to any other firm, listed or not listed. Every listed firm meets the stated criteria: an active New Jersey office, a published dog bite or animal attack practice, plaintiff-side representation, and verifiable public information. Other firms that meet the criteria are not listed, and their absence is not a judgment about them. Similarly, the tags reflect what each firm publishes and are not a claim about the scope of any firm's practice. This list is not the product of an independent rating organization, and no firm paid for, requested or approved inclusion.
